About the Department
The Department of Information Science and Engineering has 19 faculty members and 11 non-teaching staff members with 7 Doctorates and 12 faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. in reputed universities( in various domains including Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing).
The department maintains the faculty-student ratio of 1:16 and effectively inculcates Outcome Based Education. It hosts faculty who are involved in supporting funded research and consultancy projects apart from training the students in academics.
The Department also has a research centre recognized by VTU started in the year 2011 . The research Center mandate is to pursue and promote world-class research and training at the frontiers of Engineering covering broad areas ranging from Algorithms , Networks, processors to Artificial Intelligence and IoT. The Research Center provides a vibrant academic ambience hosting more than 39 research scholars both internal and external. The center is affiliated to VTU, Belagavi under the Department of ISE, RVCE. The center has eminent faculty members who are guiding Ph.D. scholars in advanced areas of Information Sciences like Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Cyber Security, Data Science, Image Processing, Internet of Things and Cloud computing.
The research center is actively involved in current areas of information technology presenting papers at International conferences, Peer reviewed Journals, Book chapters, thereby producing research outcomes as Scopus, WoS, SJR and SCI journals . Patents have been filed and are published by the Research scholars. The research center provides a learning platform for scholars to have a good option of interacting with interdisciplinary professors for bringing out quality publications as Q1, Q2 and Q3 journals.
Research center aims at cutting edge technology innovations through which proposal writings are elevated. Many proposals were submitted and participated in the pierce competitions. The Research advisory committees are framed with a proportionate combination of eminent Professors well versed in the identified areas. As of now more than 10 research scholars both internal and external (both academia/industry) including integrated program have completed their PhDs. The research center is proactive in organizing review meetings, doctoral committee meetings, workshops and symposiums to support and guide the scholars regularly. The center is planning to collaborate with Ivy league institutions in future for sourcing faculty for expertise guidance and other research activities. Research center is also planning to have its own social media handle to propagate the information across places.
Apart from academics, faculty members are involved in executing various funded research projects sponsored by General Motors (R&D), DRDO, AICTE, Armament Research Board, Naval Research Board, University Grants Commission (UGC), Technological Development for Indian Languages (TDIL) and others. We are also involved in providing consultancy services to organizations like Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Nvidia Pvt.ltd, Bat Conservation of India, Road Metrics, CEN and Symmetric Systems.
The industry incubation centre has been set up in the department to train potential entrepreneurs. Regular technical talks and seminars/workshops are being conducted for both faculty and students.
The department has Memorandum of Understanding with various Industries. The faculty members are associated with Professional bodies such as CSI, ISACA and IEEE. The industry relationship helps us frame the course curriculum in accordance with industry expectations and standards. The companies like LDRA, UIPath, IBM, MINDTREE and SPARX Systems have setup laboratories in the department. Department publishes a newsletter by name INFOBEE, which showcase the activities on the department along with achievements of students and faculty.
The Department hosts Women in Cloud Centre of Excellence in India in association with Women in Cloud, an economic development and NGO organization in Washington, USA. This centre aims at accelerating women empowerment in various arenas like personal development, digital skilling, technical inclinations, and job opportunities, but not limited to. This provides a platform for global connections for boosting the prospects for economic development for the in-need women for their career opportunities and scholarships. Several trainings on Cloud native development, scholarships for around 300 RVCE students (On Azure cloud from Microsoft) and digital skilling starting from diploma to engineering students had been undertaken as a part of Centre. Further lot many activities are planned in the future for the strong learning platform. Centre has MoUs with companies like Microsoft, Avanade, Sapta.io, Boeing, ferri.ai to mention a few.
The Department also hosts a cutting-edge technology Centre of Competence on Visual Computing, which is in association with Nvidia technologies, USA. Several trainings on AIML had been undertaken to train around 500 students.
Department of Information Science & Engineering has an excellent placement record where in various companies offer salary packages with an average salary more than 16 Lakhs. The graduates and post-graduates of ISE department are recruited by leading software companies like Tekion, Cisco, Samsung, Citrix, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Salesforce, Intuit, Adobe, Atlassian, Microsoft, Udaan, Intel, IBM, Amazon and many more. A good percentage of students opt for higher studies abroad, civil services and entrepreneurship. The students are prepared for placements by offering project-based curriculum and personality development programs. The students are provided with Pre placement training to make them ready to face the recruitment process from the companies.

Mission:
ISE1: To enable students to become responsible professionals, strong in fundamentals of information science and engineering through experiential learning.
ISE2: To bring research and entrepreneurship into class rooms by continuous design of innovative solutions through research publications and dynamic development oriented curriculum.
ISE3: To facilitate continuous interaction with the outside world through student internship, faculty consultancy, workshops, faculty development programmes, industry collaboration and association with the professional societies.
ISE4: To create a new generation of entrepreneurial problem solvers for a sustainable future through green technology with an emphasis on ethical practices, inclusive societal concerns and environment.
ISE5: To promote team work through inter-disciplinary projects, co-curricular and social activities.
