RVCE-Master of Technology in Software Engineering

The M.Tech. Programme in Software Engineering (MSE) was established in the year 2006 with an intake of 18 students. M.Tech. in Software Engineering is a full time programme with well established infrastructure and State of the art computing facilities. The Student-Teacher ratio of 12:1 is being maintained consistently over the years. Students are encouraged to work on interdisciplinary R&D, consultancy and entrepreneurial activities. The establishment of Labs with industry partner LDRA has enabled students to work on Software Testing and Quality Assurance under able guidance. Students get hands-on experience with modern engineering tools relevant to their courses using Opensource technology enabled labs in domains of Advanced Data Structures & Algorithms, Cyber-Security, etc.

The M.Tech. programme in MSE provides opportunities for the students to pursue internship in well known companies such as ROBERT BOSCH, CISCO, UNISYS, PHILIPS, ATONARP, NOKIA and MICROCHIP. Students get enhanced placement opportunities in advanced ICT technologies such as Mobile Domain and Social Media, Mobility Analytics and Cloud (SMAC). The alumni are employed in various Public, Private and Educational sectors.

The students of 2018-2020(ongoing final year) batch have been offered internship and full time placement. The maximum salary offered for internship is 4.8 Lakhs per annum.

The M.Tech. programme in MSE offers curriculum with focus on research areas and electives are on par with industry requirements.The programme offers core subjects such as Cyber Security & Digital Forensics, Advanced Data Structures & Algorithms, Advanced Software Quality & Testing, Human Computer Interaction, etc., The M.Tech. students get an opportunity to involve in co-curricular activities by attending Hackathons on latest technologies like Data Science with industry collaboration, Technical Seminars by industry experts, Webinars on course related topics from IEEE, Hands-on Workshops. Students are encouraged to takeup Skill test – preplacement activity in association with Coding Club, present papers in conferences, enroll for ICT enabled MOOC courses, etc as well as exhibit their talent in extra-curricular activities leading to holistic development.

ICT ENABLED TEACHING LEARNING

Along with Chalk-and Talk mode, the department uses blended learning instructional strategies to focus on the student engagement and active learning. MOOCs from NPTEL, Coursera, Udacity, Udemy are learnt as part of supplemental learning. Project based learning is adopted in most of the courses through self-study and assignments. Quizzes are conducted online to prepare the students to face competitive online exams. Open source software frameworks are utilized for conducting laboratory experiments. For simulation based practice sessions, videos of step wise execution process have been recorded by the faculty and shared with students. Practice sessions for various programming labs are conducted through online coding platforms like hackerearth, hackerrank and so on, to prepare students for competitive programming challenges and placements. Tools and platforms like CANVAS, Google classroom, Github, Gitbook, Codelabs, Moodle, Android Studio, Star UML, Lucid ERD, Anaconda platform, Jupyter notebook, Prometheus, Proteus Design Suite and so on are used in the teaching learning process. Online classrooms, internship projects evaluations are conducted through web conferencing platforms like Zoom, Cisco Webex, GotoMeeting, Skype, Google Meet.

M. Tech. in Software Engineering graduates will be able to:

PO1: Scholarship of Knowledge -Acquire in-depth knowledge of Software Engineering process, including wider and global perspective, with an ability to discriminate, evaluate, analyze and synthesize existing and new knowledge, and integration of the same for enhancement of knowledge.

PO2: Critical Thinking - Analyse complex Software Engineering related problems, apply independent judgement for synthesizing information to make intellectual and/or creative advances for conducting research in a wider theoretical, practical and policy context.

PO3 : Problem Solving - Think laterally and originally, conceptualise and solve issues related to Software Engineering, evaluate a wide range of potential solutions for those problems and arrive at feasible, optimal solutions after considering public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental factors in the core areas of expertise.

PO5: Usage of modern tools - Create, select, learn and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools of Software Engineering, including prediction and modelling, to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
