About the Department

Department of Physics was established in the year 1963. Department has very good infrastructure, well equipped spacious laboratories, good computational and research facilities. The department teaches Engineering Physics for all the Engineering programmes. The department offers a global electives for BE and M.Tech students of all branches. The department is known for good academic and general discipline.

Presently the department has twelve teaching faculty and three technical staff. All the faculty are actively involved in interdisciplinary research activities. The thrust areas of research involve thin films, Nanomaterials, Conducting Polymers, Condensed Matter Physics, Bio-Physics and Physics Education Research.   The department has an established research center under Visveswaraya Technological University with ten research guides and seven research scholars are currently pursuing their doctoral studies.

Vision:- To enable students to understand, leverage and appreciate the role of Physics in inter disciplinary engineering applications through development of sustainable and inclusive technology.

Mission:
1.  Imparting education with knowledge sharing, experimental skills, assignments, project work and experiential learning
2.  Imbibe inquisitiveness in Physics applications in engineering problem solving.
3. Encourage faculty and students towards research, innovations and projects.

Short term Goals:
    1. To arrange lectures on science and Technology.
    2. To introduce multiple global electives at higher semester.
    3. To take up projects and guide the students.
    4. To strengthen interdisciplinary research.

Long term Goals:
    1. To start M.Tech programme in Applied Physics.
    2. To start diploma/certificate course during vacation.

Centre of Excellence
Department has taken an initiative to establish a centre of excellence,  “Centre for Nanomaterials and Devices (CND)” in the field of Nano materials in association with department of Chemistry.

The Centre for Nanomaterials and Devices (CND) at RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru, INDIA, was started in June 2022 to support academic and research programs in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The centre has established a strong collaboration with overseas and national nanomaterials experts in academia and industry. It has the state-of-art facilities in developing nanomaterials and characterisation. The focussed area of research is development of sustainable nanomaterials and devices for energy, environment, engineering, biomedical and agriculture applications. CND is also supporting in execution of research and development projects related to nanomaterials and devices, funded by various agencies and is providing consultancy services to research institutes and industries.  In addition to research, the centre also conducts international/national conferences, seminars, workshops and internship programmes on various themes of nanomaterials.
