R.V. Centre for Women Empowerment and Skills Training (WEST)

IMPARTING JOB-ORIENTED SKILLS TO THE UNDERPRIVILEGED RURAL WOMEN

• The Department of MCA, R V College of Engineering is conducting free computer training program for underprivileged women under R.V. Centre for Women Empowerment and Skills Training (WEST). This year Rotary Club, Banashankari has sponsored Rs,10,000/- (including GST) for the program conduction. The training program delayed because of the Government election. The Training started from 14^th June 2018. The candidates participated in the training programme were 14.
• The Women Empowerment and Skill Training (WEST) Valedictory Function was conducted on 27^th August 2018 at MCA Lab01. Prof. Shanmukha Nagaraj, Dean Student Affairs, RVCE addressed and distributed the certificates on the occasion. Dr Andhe Dharani, Professor & Director, MCA Department addressed the students. Dr. Usha J, Professor, WEST Co-ordinator addressed the students and obtained feedback from the participants.

The department organizes various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities throughout the year. Students are motivated to prove their talents in various forums and excel in extracurricular activities.

Participations in Workshops/ training sessions  2019

• IV semester MCA attended one day Multidisciplinary National seminar on ‘Dynamics of Intellectual Property Rights’ on 13th March 2019 at Govt. First Grade College, Vijayanagar in association with Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre (VTPC), Department of Industries & Commerce, Govt.of Karnataka. • Cognizant Technology Solutions conducted a training program for students to understand the latest developments in IoT with respect to industrial applications. The programme was held on 22nd February 2019 in the Department of ISE, Seminar Hall, RVCE. 4th Semester Students attended the training are Rishav Raj, Madhushree,Deepashree, Karthik Katti, Prashanth H, Abhishek P, Yashwanth, Pratik, Parag, Arti, Abdul, Aatish Brian , Vinod P, Seema S, Vinita P
• Janardhan B V, Roshan 4th Semester Students attended " QualNet Network SimulatorVer 8.2" workshop on 18th and 19th February 2019 at CSE -PG Lab Organized by Dept of CSE, RVCE.
• A webinar on "Cisco Diverse Leadership Forum 2019", hosted by CCW ( Cisco Connected Women) India ERG( Employee resource Group) ,with the theme of Multidimensional leadership was facilitated at the Department of TCE, Seminar Hall, RVCE, on 15th February 2019 was attended by 24 students from 4th semester MCA Department.

MCA-IT Forum 2019

• Samskruti S patil, Reetesh Kumar, Vidya Shanbhag, Swarup Kumar Gupta, Sumanth Sharma, Hemanth Varma, Hansen Quadros, Poornachandra C.M, Fernades Macklon, Jojode Yeshwanth, Ajay D.K and Amrutha from 2^nd Semester MCA Participated in a National Level Inter-Collegiate IT Fest “ABHYUDAY 6.0”, organized by Ramaiah Institute of Technology Bengaluru, from 28^th to 29^th March 2019. The students have won Overall Championship Trophy.

• Lekhak M. V, Swetha Mittal, G V Pradeep, Syed Saif, Abhishek P, Ravi Roushan, Pratik Thacker, Vikash Ranjan from 4th Semester MCA and Poornachandra C M, Hansen Quadros, Arpita M Chikkodi and Nidhi R Shenvi from 2nd Semester MCA, participated in the National Level IT fest “ SHELLS 2K19” organized by Kristu Jayanthi College, Bengaluru from 26^th to 27^th 2019. The students have won prizes in the following events.

• Prashant Hegde, Sanjay N, Santanu Dey,  Sampath Kumar Upase,  Abhishek  P,  Pratik Thacker, Vikash Ranjan, Vishal V Joshi,  Yashwant, Rakshit Acharya,  Roshan  from 4th semester Hanson Quadros from 2nd semester MCA had participated in a National Level Inter-Collegiate IT Fest “EPITOME-2K19”, organized by St. Aloysius College(Autonomous) Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT) Mangalore, from 14^th to 15^th March 2019. The students have won prizes in many of the events.

• Two days IT Fest “ABHYUDAY 5.0” was organized by Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru from 27^th to 28^th March 2018. Shubham V. 1. Ashish M. Saraph, 2^nd Semester student represented Karnataka RV College MCA Bengaluru at SGS International Yoga Foundation College and Research Center conducted by Yogasana Championship for schools and colleges-2017 and secured the 1st place under age group 20-30 male.
2. Ms. Divya M Belagur, 4^th Semester student secured 3rd place in Chess, Inter department Annual Sports meet held during January/February 2017 at R.V College of Engineering.

MCA-IT Forum 2016

• The MCA IT Forum of the department organized ‘Talent Hunt 2016’ for 1^st and 3^rd Semester (Lateral Entry) students on 22^nd September 2016 in the MCA department. The events were co-ordinated by Ms. Chandrani C and Dr. Sandhya S.
• 5^th semester MCA students attended the invited talks on Interactional Justice for sustainability of common pool resources and  Compact Representation of Large Text Data as part of the IEEE International Conference on Computational Systems and Information Technology for Sustainable Solution (CSITSS 2016) held in October 6^th, 7^th and 8^th 2016 at  R V College of Engineering.
• Harish Datta and Nikhil M from 3^rd semester have attended an event “Code Storm” based on Implementation of Use Cases of IoT using “Raspberry Pi” Board, Sensors and Personal Computers at BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore during 23^rd -24^th September 2016.

• The annual consolidation of MCA IT Forum was conducted on 6^th May 2015 for felicitating the students who have excelled in Semester Exams, Sports, Inter-Collegiate fests and Talent Hunt program.
• Amar Prem K (1RV14MCA08) from 4^th semester had participated in Mega National Dr. AIT Techno Projects Exhibition on 14^th April 2016 held in Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology College, Bengaluru and he has exhibited his project- “Design and Development of Intruder Perceiving Apparatus”.

• Ethnic Day was conducted for the students of MCA on 12^th February 2016 and the theme was “Unity in Diversity”. Ramp Walk was organized in MCA Seminar Hall as a part of the event.

Illyas, Sarita Prasad and Saif S N Students from 4^th Semester had participated in a National Level Talent Hunt Event “IT Olympiad-2016” organised by “Virtual Laboratory Project Team at COEP” in collaboration with “Computer Society of India (CSI)”, NASCOM and “Rotary Club of Pune Pride” during 11^th - 27^th February 2016.  
• Sudesh Kumar, Mohammed Riyaz of 6^th semester and Sashi Kumar, Mohammed Ilyaz of 4^th semester MCA have won First Place at Techno Seller- A Mad Competition for Students organized by HPE company, Bengaluru, as part of HPE day at RVCE on Thursday, 21^st January 2016.

• The students of 2nd and 4th semester MCA participated in EPITOME 2015 conducted by St. Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology, Mangalore on 12th -13th March 2015 and won the Overall championship.
• The students of 4th semester MCA participated in QUESTERS-15 conducted by Gogte Institute of Technology on 13-14th March 2015 and won the Overall champions.

MCA-IT Forum 2014

Annual Function 2014

    The annual function of MCA IT Forum was organized on 26th April 2014 with Mr.Suhas, Developer in ThoughtWorks, Bangalore and Alumni Department of MCA as the chief guest. The function started with invocation, briefing on Forum activities, releasing of the department magazine "Drishya-VI" followed by felicitating the students who have excelled in Semester Exams, Extra Mural projects, Sports, Inter-Collegiate fests, Talent Hunt program. Mr Prathviraj of 6th semester was awarded the Best Outgoing Student of the year 2014. Mr.Suhas shared his experience in the department and encouraged the students to participate in forum activities which adds feather to their cap for entering the corporate world.

• The 2nd semester MCA students participated in "BROWSE 2014", an annual technical fest, organized by the department of MCA, Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur, on 10th April 2014 and won II place in Quiz.

• Sagar Kumar Nayak from 3rd Semester attended two days workshop on "Digital Media Processing" on 26th -27th Sep 2013 conducted by Mount Carmel College , Bangalore and sponsored by UGC
• The Students of 3rd semester participated in Resolution-13 organised by CMRIT, Banglore on 27th Sep 2013. Sanjeev Kumar Suman won First prize in coding.

Sports Activities

• Anup Basti of 5th semester MCA represented RVCE at secured 2nd place in the Prof Mukherjee memorial table Tennis tournament held from 9th -11th Nov 2013
• Parvinder singh of 3rd semester MCA has secured 3rd place in the VTU Intercollegiate Judo competition(90 kgs) 2013-14 .
• Himansh Singh of 1st semester MCA has secured 1st place and Nitesh CB of 3rd semester has secured the second place in the VTU Intercollegiate Judo competition (100+kgs) 2013-14.
• Bharth B of 3rd semester MCA participated in the 16th Dr. M.S Ramaiah Memorial Inter Engineering College Cricket tournament held from 28th aug to 7th sep 2013 and secured runner up.
• Bharth B of 3rd semester MCA represented RVCE at secured runners up in cricket Inter collegiate Inter Zone competition held at SIR MVIT Bangalore from 5th April 2013 to 10th April 2013.

Accenture Campus innovation program

The students of 1^st semester MCA participated in the "Accenture Campus innovation program - Crack the Contest" for RVCE Students Hosted by MCA, ISE, CSE Departments on 16^th November 2013, and Mr. Sudesh I sem B - MCA was selected as one of the winners.

IMPARTING JOB-ORIENTED SKILLS TO THE UNDERPRIVILEGED RURAL WOMEN

THE OBJECTIVES
The Centre is established in 2006 with the following objectives:

• To provide training for the poor and underprivileged women.
• To provide social justice and empowerment through enhancement of technical skills in the women of the weaker section of our society
• To impart the theoretical and practical aspects of basic knowledge of computers to enable these students feel more confident in their work areas.
• To empower the women to be self employed.
• To motivate them to be self-confident in their life.

TRAINING PROGRAMME OFFERED BY THE CENTRE
The various areas in which trainings are given include computer fundamentals, MS-Office, Tally, Adobe Photo shop, Fundamental Programming languages, PC/Network maintenance and Troubleshooting Program , Internet fundamentals , communication skills and hardware skills.

COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMMES OF WEST
The WEST programme is sponsored by

•  Karnataka State Women's Development Corporation, Government of Karnataka, three times.
•  Rotary Club, Peenya, Bangalore
•  Cognizant Technology Solutions, Bangalore
•  DST, Delhi under TEDP
•  RSST, Bangalore regularly.

XII BATCH (KSWDC) 15^th March - 15^th June 2016

The Inauguration function was held on 15^th March 2016, The dignitaries present during the function were Chief Guest, Smt. Shubha Mangala Security Consultant & Cyber / Mobile Security Expert, Global Cyber Security Response Team Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, Dr. K. N. Subramanya, Principal, RVCE, Prof. K N Raja Rao, Advisor, RVCE and Dr. Usha J, Director, MCA Dept, RVCE. Thirty Three women successfully completed the training programme.

The training programme involved computer hardware and software Fundamentals of MS-Office, Open source tools,, Computer Hardware and Networking Maintenance and Trouble shooting, Basics of Operating System , Typing Tutor, Introduction to HTML Language, Designing / Logo creation / DTP Work etc, using Free and Open Source Software. Introduction to Internet usage, Email and Social Network, Personality Development Training & Health Care Seminar.

The valedictory function was conducted on 16^th June 2016 at Bio-Tech Seminar Hall. Smt Prema Kumari, Joint Director, Women and Child Development and General Manager, KSWDC was the Chief Guest and Smt Maya Chandra, Trustee RSST was the Guest of Honor for the valedictory function. Mr. Krishna Reddy, Registrar, RVCE in his welcome address welcomed the dignitaries on the dias. Dr. Usha J, Director, MCA Dept presented a report on the conduction of the three months training conducted by the department. In her address, Smt Prema Kumari briefed about Udyogini initiatives of KSWDC and problems faced by Women and Children in general at the gathering. Smt Maya Chandra, Trustee, RSST was invited as the Guest of Honor to the occasion. She congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the training and extolled them to use education as an asset for their betterment and pursue their career. Principal, RVCE Dr. K N Subramanya gave the presidential address. He congratulated all the participants and told them to practice the learnings acquired and seek out employment so that they would be able to benefit from the trainings given by pursuing a career. He also said that he would support the KSWDC initiatives in future also by taking up such training programmes under WEST in other Districts also. Certificates and course materials were distributed along with CD to all the participants

XI BATCH (KSWDC) December 2014– February 2015

The department has successfully conducted three months certificate training programme for women on the topics including Basic IT skills, hardware and software trainings, and personality development skills conducted during December 2014 - Feburary 2015.
