MG-RVCE Centre of Competence in Electric Vehicle Technologies

RV College of Engineering (RVCE) established in 1963 is one of the earliest self-financing engineering colleges in India. The institution is run by Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust (RSST). RVCE is recognized as one of India’s leading technical institutions. It is rated amongst the top five self-financing Engineering colleges in the country. RVCE offers 15 Bachelor's, 16 Master's Programs. All the departments have research centres, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. The institution is Ranked 89 amongst engineering colleges of India as per NIRF for the year 2021 and QS-IGUAGE - DIAMOND University Rating (2021-2024). Most of the UG programs, M. Tech. and MCA programs are accredited by NBA. The institution has to its credit over 1500 National and International Journal publications, filed over 50 patents, 44 published patents, 5 patents granted, and completed sponsored research and consultancy projects worth ₹. 20.0 crores in the last three years. The institution has established over 20 Centres of Excellence / Competence in advanced areas such as Macroelectronics, IoT, Automotive Mechatronics, e-Mobility, Quantum Computing, AI & ML, CCTV Research, Smart Antenna Systems, and Computational Genomics. The Institution has student strength of over 5500, faculty 375, technical & administrative staff of 230. Around 350 research scholars are pursuing Ph.D.

MG Motor

MG Motor UK Limited (MG Motor) is a British automotive company owned by SAIC Motor UK, which in turn is owned by the Shanghai-based Chinese state-owned companySAIC Motor, headquartered in London, United Kingdom. MG Motor designs, develops and markets cars sold under the MG marque, while vehicle manufacturing takes place at its plants in China, Thailand, and India. The design of the cars was originally engineered by MG Motors in LongbridgeBirmingham, United Kingdom.

MG Motor India Private Limited

MG Motor India Private Limited is an automobile manufacturer in India, a subsidiary of Chinese automotive manufacturer SAIC Motor which marketed vehicles under the British MG marque. The subsidiary was setup in the year 2017 and began its sales and manufacturing operations in 2019. MG Motor India operates one manufacturing plant in the country, located in HalolGujarat. The plant has a capacity of 80,000 units per year and was previously owned by General Motors India, which halted its sales operations in India at the end of 2017. MG Motor India has invested more than 2,000 crore in revamping the 178 acre facility after its takeover from General Motors.

ZS EV – MG’s first product electric car

The ZS EV, revealed at the 2018 Guangzhou Motor Show, is based on the existing MG ZS. It has a single electric motor driving the front wheels and producing 148 bhp (110 kW) and 350 N-m (258 lb-ft) — enough to take the 4.3-metre-long crossover from 0–31 mph (0–50 km/h) in 3.1 seconds, 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds. Battery capacity is 45 kWh with a declared WLTP ranges of 163 miles (262 km) for combined and 231 miles (372 km) for city. UK versions of the ZS EV have CCS charging (via a charging socket located at the front of the car, behind the MG badge). Standard equipment in the ZS EV models includes adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance. In India, a local petrol-version of the ZS EV was launched under the name MG Astor in 2021 as a rival to SUVs such as the Hyundai CretaKia Seltos and Renault Duster.
