Product Design and Manufacturing
M.Tech in Product Design and Manufacturing got accredited for two years in 2019. The department is engaged in sponsored research, consultancy, testing and characterization majorly in the areas of advanced materials development, processing and design
This course presents an overview of the product design and development process, along with the manufacturing aspects. The concepts Design for Manufacturing and assembly, analytical tools for development, costing which help the students learn to conceptualize, design and manufacture competitively priced quality products.
Robust Design, Design for Manufacturing and assembly, Finite Element Analysis, Product Design for Quality, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing process, Research Methodology Etc. are the few courses offered.
Program Educational Objectives (PEO)
PEO1: Practicing design of engineering systems through the application of the fundamental knowledge and skills of Mechanical Engineering
The PEO is expected to be achieved through the Applied Mathematics, core and elective courses, Project work, seminars, internship, etc. acquiring knowledge in the core areas of product development is a prerequisite for practicing design.
PEO2: Enhancing analytical, numerical, experimental, research and project management skills through training, independent inquiry, and professional development.
The PEO is expected to be achieved through use of modern tools for design, analysis and manufacturing and CAE, internship, project work, seminars, training, industrial visits, workshops, laboratory exercises and research based assignments. Introduction to Professional Skill Development course is offered under Humanities component. It enables the students to equip with oral and written communication skills, develop leadership, interpersonal skills.
PEO3: Working independently as well as collaboratively, while demonstrating the professional and ethical responsibilities of the engineering profession.
This PEO is expected to be achieved through project work, Internship, laboratory work, assignments, seminars and courses like Research Methodology and Project Management. The students are exposed to interdisciplinary skills through electives, experiential learning, research publications, seminars and project works. Students of Product Development and Manufacturing program are actively involved in interdisciplinary research projects on sustainable technologies.
