M.Tech. in Machine Design

Machine Design

M.Tech in Machine Design got accredited for two years in 2018. The department is engaged in sponsored research, consultancy, testing and characterization majorly in the areas of advanced materials development, processing and design.

Courses offered: Mechanics of Composite materials, Kinematics and Dynamics of machines, Advanced Solid mechanics, advanced theory of Vibrations, Fracture mechanics. Tribology and Bearing design, Theory of plates and shells, Advanced Machine Design.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

PEO1: Practicing Design of Engineering systems through the application of the fundamental knowledge and skills of Mechanical Engineering

The PEO is expected to be achieved through the Applied Mathematics, core and elective courses, Project work, seminars, internship, etc. Acquiring knowledge in the core areas of machine design is a prerequisite for practicing design.

PEO2: Enhancing analytical, numerical, experimental, research and project management skills through training, independent inquiry, and professional development.

The PEO is expected to be achieved through use of modern tools for design and CAE, internship, project work, seminars, training, industrial visits, workshops, laboratory excersises and research based assignments. Introduction to Professional Skill Development course is offered under Humanities component. It enables the students to equip with oral and written communication skills, develop leadership, interpersonal skills.

PEO3: Working independently as well as collaboratively, while demonstrating the professional and ethical responsibilities of the engineering profession.

This PEO is expected to be achieved through Project work, Internship, laboratory work, assignments, seminars and courses like Research Methodology and Project Management. The students are exposed to interdisciplinary skills through electives, experiential learning, research publications, seminars and project works. Students of Machine Design program are actively involved in interdisciplinary research projects on sustainable technologies.

Program Outcomes (POs)

M. Tech. in Machine Design graduates will be able to:

PO1: An ability to independently carry out a research / investigation and development work to solve practical problems related to machine design.

PO2: An ability to write and present a substantial technical report / document

PO3: An ability to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the areas of machine design. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the BE Mechanical Engineering and allied programs

PO4: An ability to use modern tools for the design and analysis of static and dynamic systems and mechanisms

PO5: An ability to adapt technical, safety, ethical and environmental factors in the design of system and mechanism

PO6: An ability to perform in multidisciplinary teams with sound interpersonal and management skills with a commitment to lifelong learning

Program Specific Outcomes (PSO)

M. Tech. in Machine Design graduates will be able to:

PSO1: Design Mechanical systems using interrelationship among force, stress, vibration and failure analysis.

PSO2: Develop advanced analysis tools for evaluating performance of mechanical systems to enhance the capability of the designer.
