MTech – VLSI & Embedded System
The M. Tech Programme in VLSI Design & Embedded Systems (VLSI and ES) was started in the year 2005 with an intake of 18 students and subsequently was increased to 36 in 2012 thereon. M.Tech in VLSI Design & Embedded Systems (VLSI and ES) is a full time programme with well-established infrastructure and State of the art laboratory facilities. Student Teacher ratio of 15:1 is being maintained consistently from the year of establishment. Students are facilitated and encouraged to work on interdisciplinary R&D, consultancy and entrepreneurial activities. Students get hands-on experience with modern engineering tools relevant to their courses.
The M.Tech programme in VLSI Design & Embedded Systems (VLSI and ES) is designed with latest and state-of-the art curriculum focusing on inter-disciplinary research areas. The core courses and elective courses are on par with industry requirements. The programme curriculum is designed based on the valuable feedbacks from the all stake-holders by a well experienced, strong BOS team comprising of Faculty, Industry representatives, Alumni and graduating students. The all-round development of students leading to holistic development is ensured by providing them the opportunities to involve in co-curricular activities via seminars, workshops, paper presentations in journals/conferences, hackathons, competitions and extra-curricular activities via techno-cultural fests, sports, and other clubs.
The PG programme in VLSI Design and Embedded Systems (VLSI and ES) is spread over four semesters. The programme curriculum for 2018 scheme has total credits of 94. The programme is designed as per Outcome Based Education (OBE) and in alignment to the Program Outcomes (POs). The employability, innovation and research in curriculum are ensured by the involvement of industry professionals at various stages in the curriculum design process. The mandatory project components (industry or in-house), internship and industrial visits synergizes curriculum with industry practices and needs. The curriculum design and development is done to ensure continuous improvement, adequacy and effectiveness in satisfying the academic/industry requirements in accordance with Vision, Mission and quality policy of the department and in line with the Institute. The M.Tech programme in VLSI Design & Embedded Systems (VLSI and ES) ensures the students the privilege of pursuing internship in leading multi-national companies. The department alumni are employed in various Public, Private and Educational sectors with very attractive packages. Maximum salary offered by industries varies from 8.0 to 9.5 Lakhs per annum.
The Research and Development center was established in 2004 with affiliation to VTU. The department is involved in a wide range of application oriented research supported by grants received from DRDO, ISRO, DST and Industry for varied topics such as underwater communication, high performance compact antennas and image processing. At present the department has 45 PhD – Research students creating opportunities for M.Tech students to work in leading research problems. Electronics and Communication is the lead department for Centre of Excellence in Microelectronics funded by MHRD under TEQIP 1.2.1. The department has MOUs with various leading industries and strong placement providers including QUALCOMM, TEXAS Instruments, SAMSUNG Semiconductors, NXP Semiconductors, Infineon, MEDIATEK, NVIDIA, INTEL, Keysight, TE Connectivity Department of Sericulture, Govt. of Karnataka, and BEL.
