Innovative Club:

Team dhRuVa- Astrophysics Club of RVCE
    • Student club which focuses on topics related to astronomy and astrophysics. Established on 15th of October 2018 through the department of Physics with Ravi Rajan as the Team representative and Dr. Karthik Shastry as the Faculty Advisor.
    • The team is currently undertaking two projects:
            ▪ Optical Telescope: To build a 8” reflector telescope from scratch
            ▪ Radio Telescope: To study solar spectrum through conventional DTH dish antenna
    • The club aims to create a strong and vibrant astrophysics community on campus to foster scientific temper among undergraduates.
    • Posts a weekly facts and trivia related to astronomy and astrophysics under the name #astronomical_Sunday on Instagram.
    • Acheivements:
    • Team Members Akshatha KV (ECE, 4th year), Ravi Rajan (EI, graduated 2019) and Shiwam Birajdar (CSE, 2nd Year) have taken part in Sky Watch Array Network (SWAN) Imagaing Challenge 2019 and aided in the data analysis of raw data. The challenge had 19 teams from prestigious institutions across India.
    • Team Members Shiwam Birajdar (CSE, 2nd Year) and Shounak Dey (ME, 3rd Year) took part in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competiton 2019 (an Online competition conducted by IAAC, USA)
    • Part of the Science expo conducted by Sheshadripuram Independent PU College at Kengeri satellite town on 7th January 2019, organized by Breakthrough Science Society of India.

ICT Initiative:

Department of Physics has taken inititave to adopt ICT tools in teaching curriculum.

"Open source hardware & software framework ExpEyes-17 tool for developing science and engineering experiments", which interfaced and powered by the USB port of the computer and programmable in Python. It function as a low frequency oscilloscope, function generator, programmable voltage source, frequency counter, data logger etc., applicable to design of experiment.

At present, First year students are performing “Electronics/Mechanical Experiments” as an innovative experiments which creates “experiential learning” in the Physics laboratory.
