Innovative Club: dhRuVa

dhRuVa

The role of an engineer has become multifaceted to enable technology for the next millennia. Astrophysics is one such domain that only demands a strong science background but also requires engineer expertise. dhRuVa at RVCE is a unique platform that aims to inculcate scientific temper, constructive idea and information exchange among aspiring engineers on campus in astro-physics. Moreover, dhRuVa will be the first step in developing the next generation scientist-engineers.

Established in October 2018, dhRuVa has currently three projects running in solar spectroscopy, Sky Watch Array Network (SWAN) and Telescope building. The Swan project is an all India research initiative conducted by Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) to work on data assimilation and processing of pulsar data from the Gauribidanur observatory. In house projects at RVCE include building an automated equatorial mount for telescope, in-house design and development of a Newtonian and Dobsonian telescope, develop a wide band filter for studying the solar spectrum, Conduct outreach programs among other initiatives. In addition, members of Dhruva are also involved in seminars, workshops, and summer internship programs under Indian Academy of Science at IIA and Raman research institute (RRI).

Extracurricular Activities under dhRuVa:

  • Conduction of Astronomy quizzes and outreach programs

  • Star gazing and telescope handling sessions

  • Conduction of special sessions during celestial events

  • Organizing trips to local planetarium, astrophysics facilities

  • Develop an in-house 6” telescope observatory
