About the Department

Department of Physics was established in the year 1963. Department has very good infrastructure, well equipped spacious laboratories, good computational and research facilities. The department teaches Engineering Physics for all the Engineering branches. The department offers a global electives for BE and M.Tech students of all branches. The department is known for good academic and general discipline.

Presently the department has ten teaching faculty and three technical staff. All the faculty are actively involved in interdisciplinary research activities. The thrust areas of research involves Thin films, Nanomaterials, Conducting Polymers, Condensed Matter Physics, Bio-Physics and Physics Education Research.   The department has an established research Center under Visveswaraya Technological University with nine Research guides and four research scholars are currently pursuing their doctoral studies.

Vision:- To enable students to understand, leverage and appreciate the role of Physics in inter disciplinary engineering applications through development of sustainable and inclusive technology.

Mission:

1.  Imparting education with knowledge sharing, experimental skills, assignments, project work and experiential learning

2.  Imbibe inquisitiveness in Physics applications in engineering problem solving.

3. Encourage faculty and students towards research, innovations and projects.

Short term Goals:

  1. To arrange lectures on science and Technology.

  2. To introduce multiple global electives at higher semester.

  3. To take up projects and guide the students.

  4. To strengthen interdisciplinary research.

Long term Goals:

  1. To start M.Tech programme in Applied Physics.

  2. To start diploma/certificate course during vacation.
