SHRAMADHAN CAMP AT BANAVADI

NSS RVCE conducted a 7 day camp in Baanvaadi, Magadi taluk from 1st June 2014 to 7th June 2014. 26 NSS volunteers which included 22 boys,2 girls and 2 faculty coordinators with the main aim of Kumudvati River rejuvenation and cleaning the pushkarni’s nearby and the plantation drive were all set to go. 2 NSS officers Dr. H.D Gopalakrishna from Mechanical and Prof. Anala from Computer Science and 2 more faculty coordinators Sharada from Computer Science and Rashmi from Information Science departments joined this camp.

 

YOGA TIME - 6:30 am

During the course of the camp, volunteers practiced yoga in the morning, every day. NSS volunteer Mr. Vinay K.S who had prior training on Yoga taught the volunteers few basic Asanas and Pranayama. This made a refreshing start for the volunteers and gave them energy for the further work.

STUDENTS KNOWING ABOUT THE RECHARGE WELLS

The first day some of the volunteers who took the initiative of this project briefed us with the details of what and how we are supposed to carry on with our work. They mentioned about the recharge wells which take the rain water to the underground level and also explained the importance of cleaning kalyani’s and rejuvenating this river.

 

STUDENTS CLEANING THE PUSHKARINI

There was a kalyani near by the site where the volunteers stayed and it was filled with a lot of weeds, stones and ample amount of unwanted things. All our volunteers were successful in cleaning it and were sure that after this season of rain at least some amount of water would subside in the kalyani and would help the villagers for any domestic purpose. One of the villager, helped us in giving various equipments for hire, for the exertion performed .

 

FACULTY AND STUDENTS SURVEYING THE VILLAGERS

The volunteers left for survey with the questions. They were divided into a team of 2 and there were 11 teams which were assigned a street to be covered. They surveyed around 50 houses on the first day. Through this survey the volunteers got an opportunity to meet the villagers and talk to them regarding the problems they face every day.  At the end the NSS volunteers had completed surveying around 70 houses and sat down to discuss the common problem faced by the villagers. The major problems were found to be that of drinking water, power and toilets.

VOLUNTEERS TEACHING KIDS

Everyday in the evening the volunteers had a session with the kids of the village which was the quality time spent with them. The volunteers taught kids  about general Knowledge, poems. A few other volunteers also shared stories which the kids were very much keen to listen.

STUDENTS OF NSS RVCE PRESENTING THE ANALYSIS OF THE REPORT OF SURVEY TO THE CEO OF ZILLA PANCHAYAT, MR. VENKATESH AND CELEBRATED WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

On the last day of the stay at Baanvaadi. It was the day when it was celebrated as the “World Environment Day” with the plantation drive in Bitsandra in the presence of the CEO of Zilla panchayat Mr. Venkatesh, member of Gram Panchayat Mr. Mallikarjunaih and many other dignitaries, the plantation drive started at around 1:00 PM after a formal function and went on till all the saplings were planted.
