The Department of Civil Engineering is a recognized research centre by VTU with a number of PhD and MSc( Engg) by Research. It has HUDCO Chair programme funded by HSMI to carry out Research and Development activities in the field of Structural masonry, Sustainable Pavement materials, Environmental issues related to waste management and Documentation Programs. Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of the Department are encouraged to take up inter disciplinary research in various domains like sustainable materials, structural Masonry, earthquake resistance design, pavement evaluation, traffic engineering, structural health monitoring etc. There are several  research projects funded by various agencies like AICTE, DST, VTU, ISRO, CPCB etc.
