Department of MCA, R V College of Engineering has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM Academic Initiative, on 30th March, 2010. The IBM Center of Excellence was inaugurated by Mr. Jim Corgel, General Manager, ISV and Developer Relations, IBM Software Group. The center will conduct certification courses and training programs on IBM technologies to the faculties and students of RVCE. The other highlights are – Free IBM software facilities, Free IBM certification programs, Free IBM Red Library Books.

ACTIVITIES

1. DB2 Workshop - 2010

• 3 day DB2 certification training was conducted from 28th – 30th July 2010 for RVCE students.
• About 63 students from undergraduate and postgraduate students registered for the certification training.
• Online free DB2 certification training was conducted for about 63 students by the certified students of 5th semester MCA .
• Out of 63 , 17 students got the certification.
  
  

2.Rational Application Developer Workshop(RAD) - 2010

• RAD workshop for the students and faculties on 21st – 24th December 2010.
• About 82 students and faculties attended the training.
• The training was given by Mr.Rama Shankar from WebTek, New Delhi.
• Online certification was conducted for the attended students.
• Out of which 40 students and 02 faculty got the certification.

3. IBM TGMC Projects-2011

• The Great Mind Challenge (TGMC) is India's largest technology contest, open to full-time students in Indian colleges and universities and is the IBM's National level programming contest.
• Mr. Chandrasekhar from IBM Bangalore addressed the 3rd Semester MCA students on 31st August 2010 giving the details related to "TGMC PROJECTS".
• Around 300 students registered for TGMC projects under the guidance of various faculties in the department.
• 03 batches of students of MCA submitted the TGMC projects on 05/04/2011.

4. DB2 Workshop -2011

• 3 day DB2 certification training was conducted from 3rd – 5th February 2011 for RVCE students.
• About 105 students and 08 faculties from undergraduate and postgraduate stream registered for the certification training.
• The training was given by Mr. Mohammed Adnan Khan ,Vinsys IT Services, New Delhi.
• Online certification was conducted in two phases. First phase of online test was conducted on 22nd February 2011. Out of 105 students, 59 students took up the test and 26 students cleared the test.
• Second phase of online test was conducted on 2nd November 2011. 42 students took up the test and 28 students cleared the test.
  
  

5. Visit by IBM Delegates To CoE on RVCE campus

Mr. Mike Reigel, Mr. Mauritia, Mr. Darren Bobby visited IBM CoE on 26th April 2011. Mr. Paramdas Guptha, Mr. Sunil Bhatt, Mr. Nitin Barghav, Mr. Mohammad M Shiddique, from IBM, India accompanied them.

The dignitaries listened to the presentation given by students regarding their TGMC projects which was well received and appreciated.

6. Participation In IBM University Relations & Women In Technology Event

The girl's students of the MCA Department along with faculty Mrs. Usha J and Mrs. Divya T.L., attended an event organized as part of Celebrations of 60th Engineering Week 2011 by IBM University Relations and Women in Technology at RVCE. The event was conducted on 19th February 2011 at the CSE Department Seminar Hall.

7. Nodal Center for TGMC Projects

The department was considered as a nodal center for the Face to Face session of the selected TGMC -2010 projects.
The Face to Face session was on 5th and 6th July 2011 where around 20 teams all around Bangalore participated. The panel consisted of officials from IBM to see the demonstration of the selected projects.

8. Visit of IBM Delegates to CoE

Mr.Lawerence Mohanraj, Head IBM Academic Initiative,South and West Region, Mrs.Malathi Srinivasan,Program Head, IBM Academic Initiative,Mr.Sachin Kumar,Head, Bangalore Region,IBM Academic Initiative visited IBM CoE on 13th September 2011 and discussion with Heads of the Departments of CSE and ISE, Advisor and Vice Principal regarding the progress of the CoE and students motivation towards the CoE activities.

9. IBM TGMC -2011 Talk

Mr. Sachin from IBM Bangalore addressed the 3rd Semester MCA students on 21st September 2011 giving the details related to "TGMC PROJECTS" and motivating the students to take up TGMC-2011 projects.

10. IBM TGMC- 2011

• Around 100 students have registered for TGMC 2011 and taking wide range of project scenarios depicting real life situations.
• One day workshop on Hands on Session on TGMC projects-2011 was given by Mr. Rathnam, Representative from IBM, on 11th February 2012 for RVCE students.
• 06 batches of students of MCA submitted the TGMC projects on 05/04/2012.
  

11. DB2 Workshop - 2012

• 3 day DB2 certification training was conducted on 3rd ,4th and 10th March 2012 for RVCE students.
• Around 126 students from undergraduate and postgraduate stream attended the certification training.
• First phase of online certification was conducted on 31st March 2012 .Out of 87 students 52 cleared the test.
• Second phase of Online certification was conducted on 19th April 2012.Out of 29 students, 20 students cleared the test.
  
  

12. Visit of IBM Delegates To CoE

Mr. Andrew Massd, Corporate Marketing Manager, IBM Academic Initiative-US, Mr.Bharath.K from IBM India visited IBM CoE on 3rd April 2012. Mr.Sachin from IBM accompanied them.

• Around 120 students attended the training.
• Online certification exam was conducted on 21st May 2012.
• Out of 100 students, 96 students attended the exam and 94 students cleared the exam.
  
  

14. Lotus Notes and Domino Workshop 2012

The Department of MCA under IBM COE conducted a 4 day workshop on "Lotus Notes and Domino" from 13th - 16th Oct 2012 by Mr. Rajendra choudhry and Mr. Krishna for the RVCE Students.
