M.Tech in Structural Engineering is one of the Post graduate programs run by Department of Civil Engineering. The program is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Karnataka. This program is aimed at providing inputs in the areas of advanced structural analysis, advanced reinforced concrete and steel structures, innovative construction materials, plates and shells, bridges etc. The department is also involved in research and project consultancy in the areas like structural masonry, earth quake engineering, alternate building materials etc. These topics would help the post graduates to design, analyze and find solutions for practical problems.

Eligibility: Candidates who have acquired BE/B.Tech/ AMIE degree in Civil Engineering by securing not less than 50% marks in aggregate. However in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Group 1 aggregate percent of marks in qualifying examination should not be less than 45%. The admissions are through central counseling on the basis of merit in PGCET or GATE. GATE qualified candidates are eligible for scholarship through AICTE. A few seats are also available under sponsored and Management quota.

Infrastructure: The Infrastructure for the above course includes state of the art Structural Engineering lab, Structural dynamics lab, mini test floor, concrete lab, 200T capacity loading frame to test taller walls, FEM softwares - ANSYS, NISA, STRAP, STRUD, E-TABS, STAAD.

Research Areas: Alternative building materials, Fracture mechanics, Seismic resistant masonry structures.

Placement opportunities: Major Infrastructures Companies like L&T ECC, Heerema Marine construction, Atkins, Tata Consultancy Engineers and Structural Consultants.
